Install vbX instrument USB drivers
The information provided is for help with Commtest Instruments products:
- vb5™, vb6™, vb7™, vb8™, vbBalancer™ and vbBalancer+™ instruments
PROBLEM
My vbX instrument or vbBalancer is unable to communicate with the Ascent® software via USB.
SOLUTION
Before your instrument can communicate with the Ascent software through a USB cable, the USB driver must be installed on your PC. To do this, follow the steps outlined below:
1) Connect the USB cable to the vbX and to the computer. Power on the instrument to begin the new hardware wizard. Select 'No, not this time' when prompted to search for the software and click on the Next button.

2) Select 'Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)' and click on the Next button.

3) Select 'Don't search. I will choose the driver to install' and press the Next button.

4) Select the 'vbX' network adapter and click the Next button.

5) Click on 'Continue Anyway' when prompted.

6) The installer will now begin copying files to the drivers folder.

7) Once the driver is installed click the Finish button.

8) The 'Found New Hardware' bubble should now appear in the Windows task bar. To double check that the driver is installed properly, or to reinstalled the driver if needed, check the Network Adapters listed in the Device Manager. If it is installed correctly the vbX driver should be listed with no warning indicators.

Note that when the instrument is off or the USB cable is disconnected the vbX network adapter will not be shown.
