Comparison of vbSeries® and vb1000b Balancing Capabilities

The information provided is for help with Commtest Instruments products:

  • vbSeries® instruments, vb1000b instrument

QUESTION

What are the differences between the vb1000b balancer and the balancing program you get with the vb3000, vb2000 and vb1000 instruments?

ANSWER

The balance program is very similar between the 1000b and vbSeries instruments. All instruments can perform trial weight calculations, weight splitting, combine weights and calculate a radius change for the final solution. There are, however, a number of key differences.

ADVANTAGES OF THE vb1000b

  • The vb1000b balancer provides you with data storage for 200 machines whereas the vb instruments are limited to storing 10 balance jobs.
  • The vb1000b balancer has two additional balance solution types - use of two fixed weights or three fixed weights. These are for use on custom built machines with repositionable (sliding) weights permanently mounted in a groove near the rotor edge.
  • The vb1000b balancer incorporates a drill depth calculator that calculates the amount of material that can be drilled out. This balancing solution is used in situations where it is preferable to drill out material rather than attach permanent weights to a rotor.
  • Additionally the vb1000b balancer manages to achieve slightly higher resolution in displacement, about 0.3 micron compared to 1 micron for the vb3000 instrument.

OTHER POINTS OF COMPARISON BETWEEN INSTRUMENTS

  • Both the vb1000b and vb3000 instruments support velocity and displacement sensors for balancing. The vb2000 and vb1000 instruments use only accelerometers for balancing.
  • All two channel instruments support dual plane balancing. The single channel vb1000 instrument can perform single plane balancing only.
  • The vb1000b balancer does not communicate with the Ascent software. To produce balance reports we will provide you with our Report Grabber software, which you can use to create text-based balance reports on your computer.
