Installing Ascent Using a USB Security Dongle
The information provided is for help with Commtest Instruments products:
- Ascent® software
Important: (For all Windows® operating systems) Do not connect the security dongle until the Ascent installer program prompts you to do so.
Note: You must have computer account adminstrator permissions on your PC to install the Ascent software. Contact your local network administrator for assistance with this.
- Close all programs on your PC.
- Insert the Ascent CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
- Wait for the Ascent installation program to automatically start.
OR
- Run the setup.exe program located on the CD-ROM.
- Follow the instructions below that match your particular operating system.
Windows XP, 2000 and ME
- Connect the dongle to the PC's USB port when prompted.

After connecting the dongle, the 'Found New Hardware' wizard will activate and use the 'Aladdin Key' drivers from the Ascent installer. At this point the Dongle Log window will open and display a list of which features are available for the dongle.
- Click Continue on the Dongle Log window to start the software. This completes the installation process.
Windows 98 and 98SE
These systems will require the PC to be re-started during the Ascent installation process.
- Install the software with the dongle disconnected. At the end of the installation a message appears telling you to re-start the PC.

- Click OK to close the Ascent installer.
- Manually re-start your PC (log off then log on again).
- Once re-started, log on (if applicable) then connect the dongle to the PC's USB port. The 'Found New Hardware' wizard will activate and automatically use the 'Aladdin Key' drivers from the Ascent installer.
- To complete the dongle installation, start the software by double-clicking the desktop icon or use the Windows Start menu.
The Ascent program will look for the dongle then start up as normal. This completes the installation process.
