Proflash Warning: Avoiding Instrument Lockup

The information provided is for help with Commtest Instruments products:

  • vbSeries® instruments, MMS data loggers, Profiler instrument

PROBLEM

The instrument locks up after performing a PROFLASH.

SOLUTION

Always upload any data you wish to keep before carrying out the PROFLASH procedure.

When PROFLASHING, ensure that the procedure is fully complete before switching off the instrument. Aborting the PROFLASH will result in permanent damage to the Flash RAM chip on the main PCB inside the instrument.

The entire PROFLASH process, under normal conditions, takes approximately one minute.

If you think an error has been made let the PROFLASH complete anyway. It is easier to undo firmware errors then to replace the Flash RAM. Any instrument with the Flash RAM damaged in such a way will have to be returned to Commtest for repair, which may not be covered by the warranty.
